This is a homeschooler's dream trip as far as geography and history goes- we will be traveling through mountains, through glacier parks, through foothills, prairies (and more prairies!), through lake country, and also getting a taste of urban Toronto, which is a big center in Canada. We will be seeing first hand the places that the two oldest studied while they were at home, and that J and I have been looking at this past year. The Skipper has wanted to do this for a long time, and when the kids were smaller, statements like that from him result in raised eyebrows from me, and a "yah, right" kind of grimace. (He is someone who needs to be able to step away and get 10 mins of quiet time when things get a little crazy- this might be hard to do in a truck with 6 people in it!) Now that the kids are all a bit older, and since they all love to read and drive (lucky ducks- I get sick just glancing at maps if I am the passenger), I think we will do ok. In fact, I am quite excited about having a really great family time. Nothing has really detered my enthusiasm, no matter how many times I hear: "What, you're DRIVING with all your kids? Are you CRAZY?"
Here is a sampling of some of the places we hope to visit:
Glacier National Park

Drumheller, and the Royal Tyrell Museum
aka- lots and lots of dinosaur stuff
Anyone wanna guess what the natives used such a cliff for?

I am not even telling what this one is, because most of you know it, right?

And, finally, the place that no red blooded, Canadian family would miss visiting when visiting Ontario:
The Hockey Hall of Fame
Home of the Stanley Cup!

Oh, and I am pretty excited about having less clothes and dishes to wash, too.

There's only one of those places that we haven't been to. You guys are going to have a blast!
I know the 'you're crazy for driving with children' comments. Earlier this year, we drove our children from BC (slightly more north than you) to Hermosillo, Mexico. Our boys were 6, 3 and 17 months. We loved the family time!
Have fun!
Oh girl, this is AWESOME on so many levels!!
We went across America when I was about 17 and it was one of the most memorable things in my life. I hope to repeat it with my kids one day.
Your kids will love it (even if they get cranky) and many memories will be made. So VERY cool!!
By the way. I'm jealous. :D
Just drove by the Hockey Hall of Fame on Wednesday and thought of you. :) You'll have to tell me if Toronto was better for YOU than it was for us. :)
I need to upload our photos of our Canadian trip. :)
Can't wait to read about the adventures when you get back!!! :-)
Go, Jane Go!!!
Hope you are having a nice trip!
Missing you!
