K.I.S.S. Decorating

Photobucket
We have been decorating for Christmas this week, very casualy, little by little. We don't do too much- a couple nativity scenes to look at and a Little People one on the coffee table to be played with, a red berry wreath on the door, snowflakes on windows, etc. I am a paper chain girl, so I have those strung up as well. It may be weird that I like making paper chains at the age of 35, but at least they are cheap and not made in China! This is the first year that we haven't gone to the local Lions Club farm to have a tree hand cut for us. It is a good cause, but usually costs about $40- 50.00 donation. This summer I bought a garage sale tree on a whim, thinking the kids could decorate it in our rec room, but we decided to save some moola and use it as our main, and only tree. It is a little cheesy looking, but I guess we can just say that we went "green" and saved the life of a young tree. My favorite things are handmade, mostly by my kids. Our tree will never grace the pages of Martha Stewart, but it has many memories hanging from it's branches.

My favourite parts of the tree are the spots near the bottom that little M decorated. He hangs about a gazillion ornaments all on one or two branches.

He visits the tree when he firsts gets up, humming and rearranging things. If we had a beautiful, ornate tree, I would have to shoo him away- I love that I don't have to do that. Yesterday he asked me to just come sit with him and look at the tree. That was a nice, quiet moment, and then he wiggled away to rearrange ornaments again.

I LOVE these reindeer that K made when he was 5. I may have had too many Nanaimo Bars the other night, because I snuggled up on the couch beside them, and tried to name them. I have always thought of them as a couple, so I came up with some names like Ernestine and Roger, or Edgar and Mabel. I still haven't decided, maybe I will ask the kids what they think... Roger/Edgar (the one on the L)looks like he has had too many rum and cokes, or possibly looks like me... at the end
of a busy December day...

Jane, what a sweet tree. I love the handmade stuff as well. You are nice to let your little guy redecorate. It used to drive me crazy!
I also like paper chains. I wish I could get someone to make them with me, though. they are just not the same when made by myself. Maybe I will do it anyway. Just some, not tons.

You know I have always loved the comfortable tree. I love the kids ornaments...still use the ones my son made when he was little...they bring back such good memories. And now that Julia is into the whole decorating thing....we have had some fun doing some crafty things to get ready for Christmas.
We usually use a real tree too. But this year we bought a little fake one. I think your looks great...it has the finger prints of your family all over it. And what could ever be wrong with that?
Don't you just love this time of the year?!
