Part Three: Childhood Dreams

I was an avid reader from the time I was 5, so many of my heroines were from my favorite novels, with a few movie plots mixed into the pot.

While reading the Anne series, I wanted to live in a beautiful place like Green Gables that had gorgeous landscapes like Lover's Lane. I desired to write and teach like her,..and to marry Gilbert Blythe.

Jo March gave me a strong desire to find an old rambling house and make it into a safe haven for a bunch of dirty homeless boys. She, like Anne, inspired me to write fabulous novels.

Maria Von Trapp (as in Julie Andrews and the Sound Of Music, as compared to the real life Maria) made me want to dance in meadows and run off to Europe to find a rich, handsome Captain and save the day by becoming a breath of fresh air to him and his lonely children. The drawback there was that I couldn't sew clothes out of curtains, but that was a minor detail.

My Mary Poppins dream was along the same lines- for many years, I wanted to travel to England and become a nanny for rich British folk. Instead, in my teenage years, I had a boyfriend and so then traveling and living away after graduation became an impossibility in my mind. I still think that would have been cool though.

Nancy Drew inspired me to have a keen mind and to drive a snazzy convertible while hanging out with my 2 best friends who were not as cute as me. That series started a life long love of mystery novels, even though the book covers scared me so much that I had to hide them under my bed at night to prevent the boogie man from getting me while I slept.

Pollyanna made me want to be good- a little shining example of positive energy in every one's lives. (this is titled DREAMS, I remind you)

I was also going to head to dangerous battle fields one day to rescue and help like Florence Nightingale. This went along with my strong desire to travel overseas and become a missionary. I remember being thrilled while devouring stories of David Livingstone and Adoniram Judson.

Laura Ingalls ignited my pioneer spirit and made me want to rewind time and homestead land. I also was in love with Almanzo (as in the Almanzo in the tv series).

C.S. Lewis especially gave me a love for great writing. I still love to read the Narnia series, especially out loud to the kids- I absolutely love the rhythm of his work. Of course, like every other child who ate up that series, I wanted to live in Narnia- probably as Queen Susan, 'cause she was pretty, and was a fabulous archer.

Oh boy, this could go on forever, that just reminded me about my love of medieval times- how I pored over fairy tales such as the Brothers Grimm, etc, and how I loved The Tales of King Arthur. If I couldn't be a brave knight myself, I wanted to be a beautiful, smart princess who had a gallant warrior declare his undying love for her.

I have to go get on with my day now, I have many projects on the go. I was going to add lots of pictures to go with this post, but my time is up, so it will have to go without!

Tell me some of your literary inspired heroes/heroines/dreams.

have you found your "bossom buddy" in this world yet? ahh, anne!

so fun to read these and remember such wonderful times of escaping into such sweet worlds.

only wish the little girls of this generation had more of these around them and up front leading examples.

My favorites were Mandy by Julie Andrews, who wanted a home and family of her own and Caddie Woodlawn who finally decided that becoming a young lady was a good thing. I read them over and over and over.

Alright, I will second the Maria Von Trapp thing. LOVE HER.

I wish that I could come up with one on my own, but my brain has been in stupid mode for about 2 days.
