Amy Beth has started this fun carnival, and I decided to put my two bits in.
At first I thought it was Fetish Friday, so I am glad that I got that straight.
My first piece of advice to expecting moms is to throw out any pre conceived notions of pregnancy, especially the images that Hollywood gives us- like The Father of The Bride 2, or the one with Hugh Grant (9 months?) They are so filled with panic, drama, and frenzy-it doesn't have to be that way. I apply this thought to some pregnancy/parenting advice books as well. Read them if you have to, and then chuck 'em, 'cause nothing goes by the book! There is one that has been popular for years that I particularly do not like as it made me feel guilty just reading it. The cheat food mentioned in the pregnancy nutrition section was frozen yogurt. (Yippee.) I couldn't live up to the standards.
The bottom line is that you will get tons of advice and hear lots of stories from women who have already been through it. Dwell on the good stuff- let the scary stuff fall away. Find a mentor- someone you trust who has children, spend time with her, ask her about all you wonder about, watch how she does things with her children, etc.
Next time, I will tell you about a product that I would not do labour/post labour without...

Love it! Roomie and I were just reading through one of the books the other night and had the same type of reaction... those books can be SCARY!
I so appreciate you joining in on the carnival -- hopefully I'll figure out the Mr. Linky problem before next week! ;)
Frozen yogurt as a cheat food? Then I was really bad.
I so agree with Karen...LOL!
Can I just truthfully say that I am glad that I can pass this advice on to others...because this baby factory is closed!
But other than singing the hallelujah chorus that all that is behind me.....GOOD ADVICE! ;)
my first pregnancy's biggest shock was my due date. I was (like every mom) so sure I was going to be early. I remembered waking up on my due date, thinking for certain TODAY IS THE DAY. I remember waking up, getting dressed, and waiting. and waiting. and waiting.
Which was good practice for parenting, no?
