I LOVED watching the summer olympics- seeing those lithe, limber girls do those amazing gymnastic moves across the floor just thrilled me. In my mind I was out there on the mat too- never mind that I was chunky, clumsy, and could barely touch my dirty toes. I believed in miracles. I remember my dad TRYING to help me out and literally shoving at me, trying to help my body do a backwards somersault as I grunted and gasped in my awkward position. nope. nada.wasn't happening.
I even did a floor routine in my highschool library when our school decided to put together a cheerleading team. Here was my big chance! I was going to shine. Here was my routine: somersault, somersault, somersault, log roll, log roll, somersault. Ta da!
Another dream unfulfilled. But don't feel sorry for me, I had lots more...

Thanks for the morning giggle.
I can relate. I had clumsiness issues as far back as I remember. I took gymnastics one summer. I couldn't get the easy stuff like sommersaults down. I had my shining moment on the parellel bars, though. I hung there and swung a little. That was my magic gymnastic moment. And I am always in awe of what those girls, and guys, can do.
That video brings back a flood of good memories! I'm a huge olympic gymnastics fan too. My brief gymnastic career (one semester at the local park) was cut short when I broke my wrist. I was so determined to not miss out, that when I went to half a cast, I insisted on doing the vault and hit my instructor with my cast. That was the end. Sigh. My sisters and I sure looked cute in our coordinating leotards with matching tights (I think mine were aqua). Loved the eighties! ;)
This is a fun series!
i give ya a 7.9 for trying!!
Hey girl...just checking in.
We will head out tomorrow around 2 in the morning and so I am at Mom's hanging out.
I know about your dream here...I love watching the Olympics.I loved the ice skating. We had one rink in our area and the first time I got to go....my ankles would not hold me up. A dream crushed! No gliding around for me.
I guess the good thing is that neither you nor I will have to deal with joint traumas in our old age. :)
Talk to you again soon.
I still dream of ballet dancing. Maybe in heaven . . .
I loved gymnastics! Alas, I was too tall for such antics.
I love people with pluck!
I used to think I was going to be like Olivia Newton-John.
nevermind that I can't sing.
I was ready to do Grease 2... And was SHOCKED that they didn't ask me to be in it!
nevermind that I was 10.
that Michelle Pfeiffer. Always stealing my thunder.
