and Rachelle:
Have you always lived in Canada?
Yes.
What is the best quality a person can have in your eyes?
Hmmm. To have experienced God's grace, which in turn makes them view other's through the eyes of grace.
Do you ever want to have more children?
NO, not at this point. I cannot have anymore physically unless God intervenes- this was by choice. I absolutely love babies and little children though, so I am happy to have a new nephew and pregnant friends! I read Jo's Boys many times as a girl and wanted to have an orphanage on day. Who knows?
What does a typical day look like for you?
Hmmm, with the change from homeschooling to public 3 days ago, I am not sure how to answer this. I get up at 5:15 on the days I go to the gym, am home by 7:15, by then The Skipper has gotten the kids up. Breakfast at 7:30, devotions, walk to school with kids at 8 am. Home to kiss hubby good bye, clean up kitchen, play with little boys, go for a walk with them, etc. Some days I go shopping and get home in time for lunch and Little M's nap. J and I have had more time to read, sing and play together. The other day we laid out all his alphabet cards and had fun going over the sounds. On the days I go to the gym, I like to try to have a rest myself, so far this week it hasn't worked out. By 2 pm we are walking down to the school to pick up A and K. Once a week they have piano after school, but usually we can just come home again. Like I said, this is a new schedule, so we will see how it goes. I would like to have an actual cleaning schedule as we have a big house and the dust bunnies creep up on me if I don't stay on top of things! Now that I have more time in the mornings, I am hoping to be more organized.
What's your home like?
In all honesty, I have a beautiful home. It is a big family home that my husband and I have been working on for the last 5 years. We moved in 3 years ago while it was still undone, and there is still lots to do. I have included some pics, and if you look close, you will see that there are no curtains, trim, cupboards, etc. It makes things a little disorganized at times, but we live with it. We save lots of money by doing everything ourselves. By that I mean that The Skipper makes all the trim, cupboards, cuts, sands and lays the floors, etc, etc, etc! I am hoping to have kitchen cupboards this year. We'll see. I'm not complaining though- we got into the market at the right time here- now things are very expensive and we could never afford to buy our home. I don't mind plunking away at our many projects when we consider how big our mortgage COULD have been.
Come on in through our blue front door:

Our entry way. The big plywood cut out in the middle of our fir floor (milled from our property) will one day have tile in it- maybe some kind of mosaic- fish, boat, I dunno? Something to do with the ocean probably.

Our unfinished staircase in our entry way:

If you turn right from our entry way, you enter our more formal living room. There will be a fire place on the one empty wall there one day. We are going to paint that wall a reddish color similar to the one in our dining room next to it, and repaint the dining room a tan color.

Our dining room- we used this as our school room and that is where the kids still seem to do homework and where we do our projects.

Our kitchen is unfinished. We have flooring, counter top and appliances, as well as a couple of the cabinet boxes built. I store a lot in totes balanced on top of the boxes. This room has a lot of sunlight and I can see into our yard to keep an eye on the kids.

Yes, that is a picnic table. It is where we eat. There will be an island there one day and then we will eat in the dining room (once my hubby builds a table for in there- you see how this goes?)

Next to our kitchen is our family room. This is a high activity room as well- you can often find us and the dog in here playing, reading, wrestling, or sitting by the wood stove. Presently, this room still has plywood floors. I am wanting to buy a nice comfy brown corduroy couch for this room to replace the old slip covered one. One day...

Ok, I loaded these sideways, so bear with me. This has taken a long time and I don't want to go back and fix it. So tilt your head to the right to view. I am showing you this room because I love the colors and simplicity of it. If I could wave my wand, I would make my whole house simple and organized, decorated scarcely but warmly. I am not a big knick knacky person and like surfaces to be uncluttered. I am not into frills, lace, etc.

These are our cubbies in our boot/laundry room. Each of us has one, and we love them. As you can see, they all need a good sorting out.

Thanks for visiting!

what a fun tour! thanks for sharing!
Cool House. Must be great to have all that space.
We read Jo's Boys too, enjoyed it, but alas, it did not make me want to run an orphanage!
Oh I LOVED seeing in your home!! :) Thanks for doing that! The floors are GORGEOUS!
And I must say, you are a good, good woman to be so flexible as to not have kitchen cabinets! You are patient and flexible and accepting! Good for you!
Wow! Thanks for taking the time not only to answer my questions, but post all the pics too!! Loved it! :-)
Like the way your blog looks. Love your house. I'm trying to not be jealous! :-) We are definitely not in our dream home!
Thanks for commenting at my blog. I'm glad you were touched by Katie's story. So many people have been. I'm thinking about doing a blog about her whole life. I just shared about it at Bible study on Tuesday and thought it would be a good thing to blog.
Of course you can add me! :-) I feel privileged! Thanks
Dear "Barney"
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog, I appreciate each and every one of my visitors, even if they are freaks who scare me!
On a lighter note, I would love to do breakfast. I can get my mom to hang out with the boys, so whenever works for you.
Great pictures! Your house is so homey! I love it.
I love the cubbies - and I think now I have a picture to show my husband what I want in our hallway. Those are totally awesome!
That was pretty cool.
I think that it is great that you are taking you time and not going int huge debt.
In our last house-the one messed up in the storm--I had three kitchen cabinets. Two were because my Dad built them for me.
One was for posts and pans and the others were for pantry.
I love the idea of a mosaic on the floor coming in.
I love things simple and uncluttered. No lace or doilies here either.
Thank you for showing me around.
I have never had a fireplace before. It was always a dream of mine to have one. We have one in this house and I will enjoy it to the hilt until God moves us on. Hopefully the house we settle in will have a fireplace too.
LOVED the tour!
And I especially love your answer to the best character quality question. Amen, sister.
