Back to the New Age Issue

A couple of posts ago, I talked a bit about some of the spiritual beliefs prevalant in my area. The definition of New Age here describes a lot of what one encounters here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Age There is a sign out down the road for a fortune telling shamaness, fortunes are told and mandalas are painted at festivals. There are many discussion groups on the power of the metaphysical at a local church (the minister there has a Wiccan wife), etc. There are a lot of lovely, kind hearted, searching people. I pray for the courage to speak of Jesus-even though His name often shuts down conversations. It seems that one can speak of the goddess within, the spirit of the land, but eeerrrrccch (that is supposed to be the sound of braking), eyebrows go up and the conversation scrapes to an awkward halt at the mention of the "J" word. Not my problem though is it. I am to love and to give a reason for our hope, even if I sometimes look foolish. God will use my feeble attempts. I have seen God use faithful people in this community, I have seen churches grow. To my shame, people who I would never have thought to see darken a church door have given their lives to Christ because someone invited them on a Sunday morning, or to an outreach dinner. God ways are not my ways, nor are His thoughts my thoughts. Praise the Lord for that!

That is fascinating. Where I live there are a lot of new agers and wiccans but they keep to themselves and are not bold at all so I forget that they are even there. You have the opportunity to see God do some amazing things!

I have no doubt you are impacting people! And of course the name Jesus brings on the brakes! One day, at that name, every knee will bow!!!

I had a comment from a blogger the other day that said I need to think of things from the point of view of readers who do not follow Jesus.I do think of them. But their perspective is wrong and The Truth needs to be spoken.
We love because we were first loved.
Love them girl. Keep planting those seeds.
If they don't hear the name of Jesus from us you can better believe satan will make sure they are following his.

Being a former new age believer turned to Christ, I can say that you are doing the best thing by just loving these people.

I know it doesn't seem like much, but you have obviously seen what happens when you mention Jesus. If you show them love and are honest with them about your life, they will know they can come to you when the Holy Spirit starts revealing himself to them in His time.

It's really in God's hands. And pray for them! It really works!

I can't imagine my faith being stifled like that. We live in the "Bible belt", so it is almost expected that you are a Christian (but that doesn't mean that kooky ideas aren't rampant, either).
How hard that must be for you, but you are right, you can't hide your candle. What an awesome chance you have at a harvestful of fruit.

I used to live where Gayle lives... with all the New Agers and Wiccans, and I think it hung like a curse over the town. Lots of darkness. With that said, the churches in the area where so much more passionate, and powerful there. I live in a town where it's predominately Christian... but everything is watered down and complaicent. Without an evil to fight, we've become fat and lazy (in a spiritual sense). I often miss being where "all the action" is.

Go fight some bad guys for me! ~K
