Am I the only one that approaches the library check out with butterflies in my stomach, wondering how much I am going to owe them- can the amount be handled by the coins in my wallet, or will I have to pull out my check book??? I have thought about making a break for it a couple of times after the amount owing was announced in a loud, shocked librarian gasp, but I don't think all the kids would realize they were supposed to run too...
So, yesterday, I actually approached with some confidence, as I have been paying more attention. But no...of course, I owed over 5.00 again. grrrr. I immediately paid up, but the librarian was still tutting in a nice sort of way, while my 6 year old picked up an adult novel (not that kind) that was displayed at the desk. He proceeded to clearly and confidently read a random sentence out loud:
" They think I have a sol-i-tary life."
Both the librarian and I turned to look at him.
I said "wow."
She said " It is certainly worth the money if he can read like that!"
He grinned.

Go ahead....grin and be a proud Mom...you deserve it! ;)
I always appraoch with fear and dread. Especially if we have borrowed a video. Sometimes, I luck out. My friend is the director, and wipes my slate clean. Other times, I pat up. Once, i was over $20. (2 videos @ $2 a piece, 5 days late, plus books. Not fun...)
But,. I figure, I would spend more for my family of five to go to a matinee, so somehow, it all works out. :)
Cindy P :)
PS:
Ruth reads lke a whiz, and all of the folks at the library adore her. I think that helps too. :)
i am completely embarrassed to admit how much we owe to our library and need to pay up before we move. seriously, it is terrible. so i feel your pain girl!
That is why I send SCOTT to check out books. I'm too embarrassed to hear our fine.
Your little guy is IMPRESSIVE! :) Loved this post.

I never return my books on time.
Maybe my kids will get smart too.
I always have library fines too. It's sad.
Great reading on your little guy's part! Way to go!!
I'm at the library this very minute... wondering the same thing. I keep thinking of it as an investment... yah, that's it.
I'm raising bookworms, and 3$/visit is a small price to say.
(by the way, way to go for your little guy !!!)
