Some Answers.

The other day, Sharon and Emily were kind enough to give me some blogging material in the form of questions. If this is boring, it must be there fault for not asking me interesting questions (just kidding, you two).

What have you read lately that you would recommend?

Gresham Chronicles There are 3 books in the series, which reminded me a little of the Mitford series, though it is set in Victorian times- a sweet, light, humourous read.

I grabbed this one at the library: A friend had mentioned it to me and I loved the title :

How to Hug a Porcupine: Negotiating the Prickly Points of the Tween Years. I have only glanced through it, so I can't give a recommendation yet. I am naturally inclined towards children under the age of 5. It is not that I don't like older children, it is just that I am not as skillful in dealing with them, even my own children. Thus, I am hoping for some clearer understanding and some good tips from this book. My daughter was wondering why I was reading it. In my head, I was like "see the porcupine on the cover- that's you sometimes".

Another one I have been flipping through is The Man Whisperer, Speaking Your Man's Language to Bring Out His Best, by Rick Johnson. Again, I have only browsed through it, so can't give you much of a review on that either.

I have also been reading some Francine Rivers' novels. I just finished Atonement Child- I recommend that for a thought provoking read.

When you serve seafood (shrimp) at home how do you fix it?

Since my hubby prawn fishes in May and June, we get the luxury of fresh-as-can be juicy prawns (big shrimp).

I just throw the beheaded prawns in boiling, salted water, and drain them into a colander once they start to rise to the surface. We sit around, peel, dip, and talk. I make a seafood sauce sometimes too- ketchup and horseradish, tabasco usually...

I sometimes shell the prawns and cook them in garlic butter, then make fettucini to toss them with. Serve with Caesar salad- yum!

What do you do to keep the romance alive in your marriage outside the bedroom? ....

Here's is where I lie and say all kinds of wonderful stuff...or I could be honest and say that we need to work on this area... if one thinks of romance as flowers, love notes, date nights, etc. I am pretty low maintenance- if he tells me I am beautiful, that will do me for a couple of weeks! Talking to and about each other respectfully is important, doing little things like baking his favourite cookies, bringing home his favourite ice cream, etc are things that I do, while he does things like taking out the compost bucket regularly (not my favourite), packing the garbage cans out to the road before he leaves for work (can I drag them up to the road- you betcha, but I like it when my man treats me girlie sometimes). This may seem like a weird answer to a romance question, but there ya have it... mutual respect. We're due for a tune up. Things are always better when we are in the Word together and praying together. We are going away in a few weekends- looking forward to that too.

How much American TV do you get in Canada?

We get a lot of American tv here. The Office, American Idol, and Lost are big ones- pretty much the same as you Americans, I think...

And bikini girl? Well, I would like to sit down with her and have a motherly chat...

I LOVE it when hubs takes out the slop. And feeds the dog. I hate doing both of those things. Usually I take out the slop and he feeds the dog. So sometimes he'll take out the slop, and I try and feed the dog for him occasionally. It makes me feel loved and like I'm loving him :) I hope that makes sense.

Loved reading this. :) I might have to check out those books! Have you read Francine Rivers's other novels? The Mark of the Lion series is one of my all-time favorites, and I loved The Last Sin Eater.

Well you know Francine Rivers is my girl....I think I am up to about 5 giveaways on Redeeming Love.
I can't wait for her to come out with something new. And Cindy is right about the series she talked about...it was great.

And yes, I love the shrimp info. I have some in the freezer...maybe it is time to pull some out. I hate to use them because I don't know how long till I can get some more. You never realize how much you enjoyed having seafood around till you can't get them all the time. :(
I am glad you are going to get a weekend away with your man. Keith and I have started turning everything off at 9:00 to spend time with each other. Trying to work on that whole communication thing.
Praying for you and yours. :)

Great post, and I love the "mutual respect" part of romance - it's critical!

I had fresh Lobster in Maine and it was nothing like what they serve at Red Lobster in landlocked Indiana. I can only imagine what fresh shrimp tastes like!

Loved your porcupine thought regarding your daughter! I've been a porcupine myself on far to many an occassion. I don't know what I'll do when I have three porcupine daughters!!!!

And I second the Mark of the Lion trilogy! It's on my all-time favorites list too!
