I have renewed my acquaintance with Tom, the frozen turkey. I hung out with him last December-then I ate him. Every year we get a new one and name it Tom, like some people do with their pet fish, (I hope they don't eat their little guppies though...) Tommy is about 29 lbs of frozen, raw, gross bird meat, but come Sunday evening, he will be a delicious thanksgiving entree! Yum, I am a huge fan of homemade turkey dinner. This year we are hosting, which gives us Christmas and Easter off. Whoever hosts cooks the turkey, the gravy, and stuffing, and the rest is brought potluck- great way to do it!
We have added an adult family member into our clan since last March, whose name is Tom, so our family habit of calling our turkey's Tom has become a bit of a problem, like as in tonight, when over the phone I told my mom that I was going to have to get Tom out of the fridge because he was 29 lbs and was totally frozen. She was confused... I better think of another name- any ideas?
So, as you have gathered, this is our Thanksgiving long weekend. This has been a tough week for my extended family, so it is good to remind ourselves of God's goodness. A situation that one of my family members is going through right now seems unjust and like evil is winning, but we know that the Truth is that God is in control. So right now, I will praise Him that we don't have to know all the answers- that we can fall back on Him and look to Him for peace and guidance. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that frequently, but it is helping me grow- though it may be slowly and painfully!
What is something that you never thought you would be thankful for?
I would love to hear your answers!

linda
You name your turkey?
I couldn't eat it if I gave it a name... yuck... is this a Canadian thing? Kidding ( :
I guess I am thankful for our financial downturn... My kids were getting WAY too spoiled. Now they can learn what it's like to hear "no". How's that for a positive outlook in the midst of a storm? ~K
As a tribute to Bugs Bunny you can call it George..:-)
Any name will work, though, I think Turkey Lurkey is good. I might prefer to call my frozen Turkey "it" or maybe even "lunch". :-)
hmmmm.... I think I'm grateful for the change in my seasons. It was a rough transition - but I don't wanna go back.:-)
Happy Thanksgiving! I cannot wait until our Thanksgiving because it means my job will be finished! Only 6 more weeks!
I am thankful for my teenagers. I never thought I would be. I dreaded these years but now I love them. They are going by too fast!
Never thought I would have been thankful for my diagnosis with atypical trigeminal neuralgia. (Sometimes I like to type the whole thing out because it sounds so BIG.)
But I am. (Yet I'm even more thankful that this has been a year of very few attacks!) :)
it's sunday...RUN tom turkey RUN!!! happy thanksgiving sweet canadian friend! ;o)
Things I thought I would never be thankful for...hmmm. Dirty floors, dirty dishes, dirty clothes, fingerprints on my windows the list of dirty can go on and on. BUT because of them it means my home is filled with children and without them I would be very lonely.
I never thought I'd be thankful for a hot shower. There are many reasons for that. Including the fact that our pilot light keeps going out on the water heater and I don't know it until I'm half naked waiting for the water to run!
And I think you should call him Clarence.
where's the *after* picture of your turkey? this one makes me hungry when i click on here!
