Have you heard about the placebo pills being marketed for children? Go here for more info, and then come back for my opinion and tell me yours.
I agree with the naysayers regarding this product. When my children get hurt, 'cause kids just do get hurt, sometimes a little cheerful "oopsie daisy!" from me keeps the tears at bay. For more serious owies, I may scoop them up and just sit with them. Often, the littles are not content until a well placed mommy kiss is imparted on the injured body part. I have never felt the need to give my children a pill to trick them into thinking that it will make it all better. Seems to me that this is a dangerous road to send my children down. Sometimes life hurts and stinks, but ya gotta just wait out the pain, cause it will get better. I say save the drugs for more serious illnesses, even if it is just a placebo. I don't want my children learning to turning to meds as a first resort, nor do I wish to replace the those special times of comfort with a little white pill. What do you think? You're allowed to disagree, BTW.

I agree with you 100%. I think teaching children to turn to pills for every little thing is making a grave mistake given the prescription drug abuse rate among kids nowadays....
Nothing like drug companies to "develop" a new way of creating dependency on their products. Some guy at a board meeting said, "We should start when they're early" and some other idiots agreed, and here we are ...
Not that I have an opinion, or anything!!
that is just whacked out!
I can't believe anyone would think this is a good idea. My in-laws already think there is a pill for everything and even go across the Mexican border to buy penicillin for every virus they catch. And we all know that does nothing for viruses.
No way Jose!
I cannot believe that anyone would think this is a good idea except drug companies.
Horrible -
Setting kids up to be lifelong pill takers.
It is rather infuriating!
Ridiculous on so many levels. What kind of society are we living in where we think it is OK to teach kids popping a pill can cure whatever ails you?
I also did not care for the part of the article where the doctor said placebos only work if you fool the parents. I am very opposed to the doctor is God syndrome - how obnoxious to think that the doctor could pretend effectively and fool the stupid parent but the parent could not be trusted to do the same.
Even though I think no one should be pretending - just ticked me off anyway.
*LOL*
My first thought was something like this:... I agree with Jane. But I use placebos all the time.
Only we call them M&M's. Or Mini-chocolates...or hershey kisses. Who needs a pharmacy when you've got CANDY????
yah. totally with you.
crazy world, eh?
I agree with you 100%. What is going on? Why would anyone want to promote pill popping??? oh... right "pill companies"
grr. i totally agree. what are we teaching our children on how to cope with life? scary!
