Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time. ~John Lubbock

My hubby bought this lovely hammock at the beginning of the summer. I love hammocks and doubly love this one because it is striped. ( i am a fan of all things striped). We had a quick cuddle in it the night he put it up, but I vowed to lie in it one day to read. I don't often take a break during the day, but yesterday was beautiful out. I realized that I only had a couple days of summer left to fulfill my vow, so I headed out there while the kids were in the yard playing. As though of you who are moms know, any attempt to relax puts a big bulls eye on you and attracts children to you like bees to honey. I managed to lie back and open the book, but by the time I found chapter one, Little M was trying to park his tricycle underneath me and J hurried over with the kitten who apparently wanted to join me. They all ended up climbing in and out, and in and out, and them over and under, over and under, etc, etc... So I didn't get my time alone, but I did enjoy the moment with some of my kidlings. Maybe I will bundle up this fall and go out at night with the flashlight...

While you are viewing these pics, keep in mind that yesterday was a no make up, no hair do day- I did brush my teeth though.

"barroom, barroom Mama!" Translation- I am giving you one of my favorite toys to swing with"

"up, up, up, Mama, Mama, Mama!!!" No translation needed.

"Here Mom, I brought you Cookie!" Gee thanks- now I am going to get my toes bitten as well.

Speaking of toes, Little M decided to pick some stuff off of his. Notice my hand over my arm pit- he was amusing himself by trying to pull at my hairs that I neglected to shave.

Try relaxing with this look fixed on you...

I had to laugh when he crawled under me and began gasping at my weight pushing him into the ground. Note to self- raise hammock.

Hammocks are such a romantic notion but I'm sure my kids would look at it and think, "Oh fun, a new game. Tip the mommy over!"

I'd never get any relaxing done in a hammock either. Good try though.

One of these days I'm going to get me a hammock. And what is it with children's fascinations with armpits? We have that problem too.

Thanks for the comment. I am envious that you live on the water!
My hammock equivalent is a lawn chair on the pool deck. I try to lie down with a book out there but instantly I am a target for water guns, needed as a who can do the best cannonball judge, or kicked out of the chair because it is needed for a tent. Oh well. Maybe it is better that us Moms don't get too relaxed. We need to be alert :)

Well evidently something is wrong with my subscribe button because it was stuck on your Wednesday post.
Glad you are getting to enjoy a little outside time with the kiddos.
I have always wanted a hammock but the mosquitoes would carry me away.

Something is wrong with the bookmark updates. It has been broken for a couple of days now. I wish I knew where to go to fix it. Don't trust it if you see it says no one has updated a post. I had to come here and click on your title to see if you had written something new. I hope they get it solved soon. I thought I was the only one having problems--but I heard others complaining too.
Hope they get it fixed soon.

If I tried to lay in a hammock out in my yard, I'm afraid the mosquitoes might carry me away. Handsome little guy you have there. :)

I loved seeing pictures of your kids!!

I am also one of those who loves the idea of the hammock...but not the mosquitoes. :-)
