How Well Do You Know Canada?

Some of you asked some questions regarding Canada Day- ok, just mainly Linda from Gotta Grow With It did, so the rest of you can either read this or skip over it. Remember that I will read every word of your July 4th posts though...

Linda said:
"canada day sounds cool! come on, give some of us (me) obsessed 4th of julyer's a history please? what's the traditions, what's the celebrations and most importantly...what's the foods you celebrate with?" and then she visited back and said : "i saw a little bit of info about it here on the web so i am in the know a little more now. i read that it is a 7 day celebration leading up to july 1st? now that's a lot of eating and partyin'! we just get one day round here"

Well Linda, let me just say that I have never heard of a 7 day celebration leading up to Canada Day. Our country is very diverse and large, so perhaps this actually is a tradition somewhere in it, but not that I have ever experienced or heard about. Perhaps you came across the site of a beer lover trying to get some extra partying time in. (we have a couple of those guys up here in Canada).
On Canada Day, we usually try to remember how old our country actually is (141) this year and then go watch the parade (sometimes we are in it, like this year). There is a lot of candy, flag waving, red and white apparel, music, and food (burgers, hot dogs, salmon). Then we go home (that is what we did this year anyways). I made hamburgers for dinner as that seemed to be the Canada Day thing to do. Some places bring out the fireworks at night. I don't think our town has the budget for that though.

For those of you who having been reading my blog for a while, you may remember this little Canadian lesson. I have to be honest here, and say that we Canadians probably know more about the U.S. than Americans know about us. We get quite a kick out of your impression of us. We think that we are viewed as a little slow, but friendly. What are your impressions of Canadians?

I am going to challenge anyone that is not Canadian to a little quiz:

How many states make up Canada?
We don't have a President, but we have a ____?
What is his name?
What are our two official languages?
What is the name of our national anthem?
NO GOOGLING ALLOWED!

Ok, as far as I know Canada has no states, but I could be wrong you never know.
The parade this year was really slow- too much time and distance between each group. We didn't even watch until the end, I think we left 3/4 of the way through. Looking forward to the Sea Cav parade and the fireworks!!!

Okay-- So I can't ask Kathleen, Either??

Okay --- I'm not cheating either...
Canada doesn't have states - you have territories. OOC, What DO you break them down into after provinces? Around here we have States, then Counties. What do you have?

You don't have a president - you have a prime minister and his name is probably NOT gretzky.

Your two languages are: French & English.

National Anthem - O, Canada?

So - other than the Name the PM, did I get the answers right??

My impress would be laid back and very friendly people.

Okay I will give the quiz a try.

1. I think they are called Province-10 in all.

2. Prime Minister

3. Steven Harper

4. English and French

5. O Canada

Okay---I cheated...A little because we just did a HUGE unit study on Canada. The kids play in the Canusa games and it is always a great time to learn new things about your Country.

Did I pass?

How many states make up Canada? None There's like 10 provinces or maybe 7 provinces and 3 territories or something like that. I'm really guessing here.
We don't have a President, but we have a ____? Prime Minister
What is his name? I don't know
What are our two official languages? English and French
What is the name of our national anthem? I don't know

Thanks for the quiz. I always like learning more about Canada.

Gosh! I wanted to say O Canada for the national anthem but it sounded too simple. I don't think I would recognize it if I heard it.

Ok, I tried not to look at the above comments. But I think you have a Prime Minister, no idea on his name. You guys speak French and English and Oh Canada is the song. Right on any of those?

I once dated a Swede who seriously almost dumped me 'cause I didn't know they had a queen. to quote, him: You don't know that? Americans are so self centered! What if I said I didn't know you had a president?"
17 year old me: everyone knows we have a president.
him: I think I have to break up with you now.

hahaha.

*like the way I told a story to show I only know a few of your answers?*

Okay, I'll say 9 provinces; you have a prime minister, I don't know his name (embarrassed to say), English and French are the official languages, and Oh Canada is the national anthem.

No cheating, but now I'm going to have to go and google the name of the P.M.

My impression of Canada? I have to say that it used to be, when I was younger, that Canadians were very friendly, laid back, peaceful allies to the United States. Now, in our current political climate, I'm getting really mad at Canada and feel like it's becoming an immoral country of no backbone and the U.S. better watch out because they'd turn on us in a minute! Sorry, just being honest!! BUT I LOVE YOU, JANE. :-)

Ok, I am playing BEFORE I look at the other comments...

How many states make up Canada? No states, but Provinces, correct?
And is the number 8?

We don't have a President, but we have a ____? Hmmm, Minister?

What is his name? I dunno.

What are our two official languages? French and English...THAT I know.

Wow. I kind of hate that I don't know that much.

Ok, I seriously meant to say PRIME minister (even if that's wrong), but I left out that word...so I can look even more stupid than I am..LOL!
