I Never Want to Shop Retail Again!

Because I was just buying for one at the home school conference this year, I had some free time to do other things as well. For the first time in a long time, the great big mall across the road held very little appeal to me (other than the Purdy's shop). What I REALLY got excited about was my trip to Value Village. I got a TON of clothes- good quality and things I really liked too! I scored big time for myself and my daughter, but was able to find some things for the males in the house as well. We have lovely retail stores where I live, but we cannot afford to clothe our family with them, so it was a real treat to be let loose in such a big thrift store with unlimited free time. I was on a high until I drove past a gas station later and nearly gave my sister in law a heart attack when I suddenly yelled " $1.44!!!!" That is per litre, my American friends, which works out to $5.46/gallon. Ugh, my stomach hurts just writing that. Time to make some big changes. Even though our vehicles are not the most fuel efficient around- The Skipper drives a diesel, which is now about 1.50/L, equaling about 5.55 gallon, they are paid for, so we don't plan on getting anything else. We will just try to cut down on our driving trips just as much as we can. Like I have said, I am baking bread, freezer cooking, hanging laundry, buying thrift when possible, so we are doing what we can. God is in control, so we will focus upwards, not inwards or outwards.

This post is going in a direction that I didn't intend, so, on a lighter note, meet our new little girl. She has been hanging out with us occasionally. I call her Crazy Nellie, because she reminds me of a slightly psycho-looking Nellie Olsen from Little House on the Prairie.

ugh. the gas thing is FREAKING ME OUT. we are seriously having to think more about where we go and what we do. Staying closer to home seems the only option.

What lovely golden locks. :-)

How is your sleeping? Might it have something to do with the $1.44 and surrounding uncertainty? I dunno, I can't sleep well either.

I get excited about Value Village, too!
