A Tale of Fluff and Gumboots.

It has come to my attention, that the word GUMBOOTS is not necessarily a North America wide term. Perhaps you in the States call them Rubber Boots? I think that the term gumboots comes from Australis originally, but it is what I have always known them as too. I actually live not too far away from a community nicknamed The Gumboot Nation. We are a laid back people round here I guess- seeing as we receive a lot of liquid sunshine year round, we love our gumboots. Which brings me to my next point- I L.O.V.E. my new ones!!! Check these out:

These to me are what new high heeled leather boots are to most women. I usually tromp around in my crocs in rainy weather- so this is a treat for me. I plan to wear these with everything- shorts, pants, dresses, etc, etc. Maybe not on date night, we'll see... Maybe only these that night- oh, naughty, naughty Jane. (I am so joking with that last thought- you know that right?)

Don't laugh at the next pic, especially you RLF, you know I can't pose for pics without looking awkward! I was attempting to model my fine new foot wear.

Today I found myself bombing down the road in our big pick up, taking our son to his hockey playoffs. In a weird way, it was a lovely, happy time. I had on my snazzy boots, we had "Proud To Be Canadian" and "The Good Old Hockey Game" blaring (you probably have to be Canadian to fully appreciate these blood stirring tunes, but you go have a listen! Just ignore the hockey fight if you don't like that sort of thing- you may need to be a Canadian redneck to get a kick out of that as well. Not that I am condoning or like violence in sports.), and I thought- I love this! right here, right now in this moment, I am exactly where I want to be! Aren't those moments great? When was the last time you had one? I find when I am by myself with the kids for an extended period of time, I tend try to find those moments or things that are enjoyable to me, even if it is just a small thing like walking around the yard looking at my gardens, re reading my favorite novels, eating some really good chocolate, having that great cup of tea, buying a fabulous pair of boots, or taking the truck out instead of my mommy van! I have watched way more movies than I normally do in the past couple of weeks- all major chick flicks- Becoming Jane, The Jane Austen Book Club, the Loves Comes Softly series, and tonight, Little Women. Wahoo- aren't I a party animal!!!

Here is our oldest son after winning the Most Improved award for hockey this year. I was so proud as he went from a tentative player in Sept to a brick wall on defense in March. The best part was that he knew he earned it, it wasn't just a fluff award from the coach. He is such a nice boy- I just love him!

BTW, if anyone is wondering why we have a picnic table and dresser in our kitchen, it is not just because I am weird- our kitchen is not finished, so we use what we have.

ah, so those are gumboots. I wondered. And now I have another "iwant" for my shoe needs list. You know, we do get a lot of rain in the spring here in the land of eternal flatness, and something about the color of those boots makes my soul sing a little.

I've never seen anyone buy those at walmart. ever.

oh yeah, where can I find those? I forgot to ask.

We call those boots...puddle boots. All the kiddos and I have a love affair with wearing them and running through puddles.

I love your gumboots!! If only I still lived over in the valley I could have an excuse to buy some. Alas, I'm in the desert, with 360 days of sunshine a year. :-)

Well, I'll be. Gumboots.
That much more fun to say than say - rain boots. Or galoshes.

After traisping after Mini-e - she ran away from home to go visit the neighbor's dogs -- I want some. The grass was wet from rain and my shoes were wet, just from the grass.

Shoes called "Maisy" sounds like fun.

I love moments like that...those are totally from God. And I'm so glad that we get them. And that photo of you is great...and that smile on your kiddo is precious.

*whispers*
And I'm guessing that after being gone for so long, your hubby might just want to see you in nothing but those boots. :-)

You're such a goof...I didnt' think your pic looked awkward AT ALL. It made me want to jump into the picture and hug you...you just look so fun. And I Happen to prefer fun people. ;)

And don't even try to convince me that you were joking about the boots only night...I'm so onto you, being that I'm a crazy-loving wife too. *wink* well...when I'm not pregnant. Which is ALWAYS. Hmmm...mahybe I'm not so crazy afterall. *sigh*

And yep, there's just something about driving a pick up with blaring music that heals me of the "I'm getting old" feelings. You know?

hugs

LOVE the boots! I'm a sucker for all the cute ones they have now. My favorite pair are black with red cherries all over them and if I could think of an excuse to wear them all the time, I would.

I call them galoshes, but my in-laws call them mud boots. (Probably b/c I've NEVER, in 12 years, been to their farm when it wasn't nasty and muddy...)
