A Walk on the Wild Side

I am off for an invigorating walk with my buddy Carla. I am about to don my trusty reflective vest (s*xy) and to grab my big flashlight, as well as my faithful mutt. At this time of year, we have bears rooming around the neighbourhood- a few have been sighted this week, so we will be on guard. They are more scared of us, usually... I hope they don't like hummus, as I ate a lot of that tonight! (seems to be popular eh, nrsemom!)

What kind of wild life do you need to be aware of in your area? - Not including children, that is.

Wow, you stopped to snap a picture? My walk would have turned in to an invigorating run.
Here the worst thing are dogs. They did not used to bother me until I had a couple follow me snarling and threatening for a couple of blocks until I very quickly made it to a friends home and called someone to pick me up. And then another neighborhood dog, one that had always been friendly and that we had known for years walked up to my teenage daughter and bit her hard enough that we had to take her to the emergency room.
Now when we venture out for walks we frequently run into deer. An occasional snake in the road and an occasional red fox.

No bears in my neighborhood. Just deer, turkey, annoying dogs, and an occasional annoying neighbor. ;)

I think hummus is the new chocolate now!

We have elk, deer, raccoon, a gazillion cats and mice. Nothing as scary as a bear. I think a turkey in the yard would be really wierd (cindy's comment) a bear would make me wet my pants.

You go girl!! When I lived in PA, we had bears, and surprisingly they didn't freak me out the way that the poisonous snakes do here in Sweet Home Alabama. Weird.
Glad that school is going alright for ya...I loved catching up on your posts and the wonderful pictures. :)

Lions and tiger and bears, Oh my!! The only wild life I saw today was a butterfly and a praying mantis. Not harmful at all - to humans any way! We do have Black Widow spiders here but thankfully, I haven't seen any.

no, no , I didn't see THAT bear. They are usually in our yard at night. My hubby has become a fierce, rock throwing, bear scaring machine when they come to visit.

I can't even imagine having to think about bears when I'm walking. All we have are deer, squirrels and armadillos!
