Mammogram Update

Today I went for and survived a mammogram- I was a bit nervous, mainly about the actual procedure. It was not that bad. I wouldn't want to walk around with my breast clamped up like that, but for a few seconds, it is definitely bearable.

The radiologist looked at the X rays- said he thought it was Breast Duct Papilloma as well. He said that usually there is a harmless pollup (sp?) in the breast duct. He sent me for an ultrasound, but they didn't see one, just a blook and some enlarged breast ducts. I think that he stills thinks that is the case, but they would like to put a catheter in the nipple and insert some dye to see if they can trace the source of the bleeding. He said a few times that he wasn't concerned it was anything worse, but because of my family history, etc, they want to be thorough. So, that procedure is set for next Friday. I am hoping that there will be some freezing involved...

Julie was asking about how our healthcare covers all these silly little medical things I have ( I am really very healthy, I just have these quirky things happen...) Our medical covers all of it. If it is elective surgery or something, you have to pay, or some people do for regular surgeries if they don't want to be on long waiting lists. As we are self employed, we do pay a yearly amount. My two oldest are covered under their dad's plan, as he is an RCMP member. They have dental through him too. The rest of us don't have dental, and just go in for cleanings and work when necessary. Since we live in a smaller area, we sometimes have to go the Big City for specialist, etc. Then we get a voucher for the ferry, as it is our only means of getting there. When I got air vacced out while pregnant with #3, that was covered as well, (I was a bit worried about how much that was going to cost!), but if the ambulance is just transporting you somewhere without an emergency, you have to pay then, I think... Anyways, hope that answered some of your questions, Julie. I was grateful for our system and our friendly hospital today, as they were pleasant and got me in for an ultrasound while I was still there so I didn't have to come back. How would that work for those of you in the States or other countries? I didn't have to pay anything today, though we taxpayers do pay into it.

Oh my that procedure doesn't sound like fun! Praying all goes well. Thank you so much for your encouraging words on my blog. Jeremiah 29:11 has been our verse for the year.

You don't even want get me started on our health insurance. We pay a small ransom. Each month we pay over $800 dollars and then we have to meat a $4000 deductible before our insurance picks up everything. Our health care is so expensive that unless you make very little money and you are taken care of by the government--you have to have health insurance.
So I am glad you have what you have.
I am really glad that you got a little peace of mind with your visit. I can't say i would be too excited about them trying to put something in my breast. But I am glad also that you do not have to wait too long for the procedure.
Glad today is over and you are safely home.
You said something about taking a ferry--do ya'll have a vehicle that ya'll take across on the ferry? I don't know why what you wrote gave me the thought that ya'll didn't need a car.

i am so glad the doctors do not think it's serious.. (although the catheter makes me wince)..

i know what you must be going through.. my family has a history of breast cancer.. my grandmother, mother and two of my mother's sisters have all had it.
my sister found a lump recently and we were all holding our breath.. (it was a cyst)

i am praying you will have peace..
no fear..
